Our Mission
The Free Mediation Service was established as a project in 2012 by the leading mediation charity - the Society of Mediators - to provide mediation, free at the point of use, to all, regardless of means.
It is available to people with, or without, legal representation - whatever the size or complexity of the dispute or case.
The Service treats everyone equally and helps people resolve disputes in most areas of law - except Family, Children and SEND cases.
Our Service has operated successfully online and face-to-face in many hundreds of cases using trained, accredited, insured, professional mediators who are certified members of the Society. Usually they work in pairs offering real experience and neutrality.
Since 2016 it has been providing free mediations to the courts, most notably in the Royal Courts of Justice, and it is widely recognised for its successful and effective work.
We are now supporting all court mediation nationally as judges refer matters to mediation - but the service is available at any time even if there is no claim issued or before the courts.
We offer this free service, online or face-to-face, to all.
People who are legally represented must ask their lawyers to contact us.

Who we are and where we work
The Society of Mediators' offices are next to the Royal Courts of Justice in London but the mediation service is national - face-to-face if you provide a venue, or commonly online (using Zoom Pro).
Our 400 plus mediators are a diverse mix of experienced lawyers, interested professionals, business people, and those from the arts, HR, armed forces, and caring worlds, from all backgrounds who have undergone extensive training, assessment, accreditation and selection.
